Hopscotch Returns to Downtown Raleigh for Its 16th Year
The September 10-12 festival fills City Plaza and downtown clubs with headliners including King Princess, Cory Wong and Dexter and the Moonrocks, plus a new free daytime hangout at Moore Square.
Downtown Raleigh turned into a three-night music crawl this week as the Hopscotch Music Festival returned for its 16th year, running September 10 to 12.
The festival pairs an outdoor main stage at City Plaza with club shows at venues around downtown. Visit Raleigh's schedule lists Dexter and the Moonrocks as Thursday's headliner, with Momma and Liz Cooper in support; Cory Wong and Duckwrth on Friday; and a Saturday closing bill led by King Princess, with Soccer Mommy, WILLIS and Annie DiRusso.
Beyond the Big Stage
The lineup extends well beyond the City Plaza names. Stereogum's rundown of the club undercard includes Algernon Cadwallader, Soul Glo, Thomas Dollbaum, Kylesa, Chuck Strangers, Horsegirl, solo Mdou Moctar, Oddisee, the Messthetics with saxophonist James Brandon Lewis, Truth Club and Black Milk. Also on City Plaza are Thee Sinseers, the Leo Brooks Band and Butcher Brown.
A New Daytime Option
New this year is Moore Square Commons, a free, open-to-the-public daytime hangout with live music, local vendors, food and family programming, according to Visit Raleigh. Published prices for three-day passes differed between sources.
Visit Raleigh bills Hopscotch as one of the best independent music festivals in the country.
